Sump pumps are an essential tool for keeping basements dry, and are vitally important in finished basements. Our service vehicles carry multiple sump pumps, specifically those with a vertical pump which pumps up and down. Years of experience have proven that this type of motion is better than a swing float and is less likely to become hung up during the pumping process.
Battery Back-up System
This is a smaller pump used right alongside a regular pump, and kicks on during a power outage. Battery back-up sump pump systems are generally seen as not being as viable in the eyes of most homeowners because the batteries require maintenance every 4-6 months (adding distilled water). If the maintenance is not completed, the battery will burn up or drop out of power depending on how long ago it was maintained. There are batteries considered “maintenance free” which are marketed to last up to 3 years. Our company has tried almost every battery for this application over the years and found most batteries do not last very long, and warranties tend to be prorated and do not offer much in the way of replacement.
In terms of actual battery powered pumps, they make small ones that are mostly made of plastic and are poor quality—pumping only about 12 gallons per minute. The pumps we sell are made of steel and work just like a regular sump pump, pumping out the same rate as 33 gallons per minute. This is done by the work of an inverter. The only problem, as with all batteries, is the battery will eventually run out of power if the main source of power for the home is out for an extended period of time.
A back-up system is designed to buy you time to resolve the problem of power outage or a faulty primary pump. None are designed to work as a primary resolve.
Water Pressure Back-Up System
The water pressure back-up sump pump systems are a great way to protect your home when primary sump pumps fail. They use your home’s domestic water to operate. These are becoming more popular in the market due to their design. It uses water from your water system to push through an actuator on the design, siphons the water up through a suck tube, then discharges the domestic water and sump pump water together outside the home. This pump only pumps at a rate of 12-14 gallons per minute. A standard primary pump has a rate of 33 gallons per minute. This back-up pump system is designed for pump failure resolve. We have installed a lot of these systems and they work well.

This type of machine uses a blade on the end of a cable turning clockwise as it is manually fed down the mainline sewer to cut through root penetration and other debris. This particular unit allows us to relieve the water standing in the sewer. Therefore allowing us to inspect sewer with camera, diagnosing the severity of the problem.
Smaller Drains such as kitchen, laundry, and bathroom drains
These particular machines work similar to mainline machine, but in a smaller scale. Most commonly these drains do not have root infiltration, but have other debris such as: grease, food, soap scum, and hair. After a thorough cleaning, these drains also have the ability to be camera scoped with a smaller state of the art camera.
Jetting a mainline sewer gives us the best result when it comes to thorough cleaning. This machine gives us the ability to remove build up of oil, sludge, grease, and other highly viscous substances. Our jetter allows us to clean the main at 4000 psi with many different heads.
Smaller Drains such as kitchen, laundry, and bathroom drains
This same process can be used on smaller drains as well, as long we do not run the risk of overflowing the lines. This works particularly well for kitchen and laundry drains that build up food, grease, and soap scum.
Our team of highly trained technicians uses state of the art camera systems to determine EXACTLY what your problem might be and the best course of action moving forward. We scope the sewer or main drain line with our camera on every mainline service call free of charge so we can diagnose the condition of your sewer. In addition to mainline sewers, we also have the ability to camera small drain lines within the home such as 1-1/2”-2” drains. In the event that there is root infiltration, fractures in tiles or pipe, bellies, separations, or simply just debris, we can educate the customer as to what we found and what the best course of action is. This technology has been one of the best tools introduced to our trade.
Sewer relining is the newest least invasive way to fix your mainline sewer. The product is called "Cured In Place Piping" (CIPP). This product is absolutely the best way to correct sewer problems and the most cost effective. The system's design is set up to cure your sewer problems, with a 50-year product guarantee.
So here is how it works: It is designed with a polymer liner designed to custom fit your sewer's length, offsets, and diameter. The liner is then filled with resin product and saturated. The liner is then placed in a inversion drum and prepped for launch. The area receiving the liner, (in the basement main line in most cases) is prepped by a high velocity cleaning machine that cleans the line with extreme speed, to descale old piping debris and residue. Once line is prepped, air compression is applied to inversion system and the liner is installed from the inside pipe all the way out to the repair point at the City main sewer system. Once the liner is installed we install a calibration tube in liner and fill it with air to inflate the liner up against the sidewalls of the old sewer pipe. Once it is filled, the system is then introduced with hot water to take place of the air with in the tube. Once the temperature hits a certain temperature for curing, we simply wait for the resin to cure. Most cure times run 1.5- 3 hours. After cure time is complete, we simply pull out calibration tube and it leaves you with a perfectly lined sewer from the house all the way out to the City Main repair point.
CIPP was designed with the customer in mind. We do not have to dig in you yard to replace piping. Our #1 complaint over the years in the sewer repair business is the leftover condition of our customer’s lawn. There is a huge hump of dirt that has to settle, the landscaping and sod has to be put back or you can fight seeding the lawn. It’s very frustrating for the owner of the property. That's just the yard dig.
What if you have to dig up a paved or concrete patio? Or maybe take down a portion of your deck to get the access you need to dig? What if you cannot get a machine in the area you need to dig? What if the sewer problem is under your driveway and or sidewalk? Remember, the main line that runs from your house to the city main (usually located in the middle of the street) is your responsibility. Can you imagine the cost of shutting down the street and digging it up? We know these costs! Digging used to be the only way this repair could be made. With our CIPP method of relining, you avoid all the mess; headache and frustration of putting your lawn back together.
This is a service we have used on several occasions just this last year. It is a form of CIPP. This is a 24" repair that works like CIPP resin lining, however, it is made of a heavier woven pad that works by ambient cure only. This means it has a longer cure time, but still within one day. It is designed for one bad area of a pipe that needs a 24" Band-Aid so to speak. We do a lot of 4" x 6" transitions with this product. We insert it down in the pipe where there is a crack, joint or transition, blow up the bladder until it rests against the pipe, leave air pressure on it for several hours and then remove bladder. That portion is corrected and guaranteed.
Generally, most sewer contractors try to sell homeowners a standard cleanout, thus providing access to the main sewer from the exterior of home. This access only temporarily solves the homeowner’s problem. Root infiltration does not go away and in fact grows back larger every time that they are cut. Now, rather than solving your problem, this contractor must return every 1-3 years to maintenance your sewer. With an investment in a new liner through your existing sewer, you no longer have a maintenance issue or another back up in your home.
The following is a cost comparison for digging only lawn type soil, this does not include areas of more expense, such as: under patios, decks, driveways, sidewalks or any other landscaping areas. These areas of excavating would be more expensive than the following.
|Digging/Excavating||Relining the Sewer|
|$400 per day x's 2 days||$800.00||No digging, No yard disruption, no stress putting the lawn back together. 75' sewer - $100.00 per foot with standard access|
|Materials: Pipe $500, Sand $400||$900.00|
|Labor (3 men/3 days - $85 per hr)||$6120.00|
|Dirt Settling fee||$850.00|
|Prep for lawn reclamation||$680.00|
|Total cost for Seed Finish||$11630.00|
|Substitute sod for seed (-$780.00)|
|Total cost for Sod Finish (Sod replacement after settling $3000.00)||$13850.00||$7500.00|
This process cures line deterioration from years of fats, oils, bleaches, acids, chemical compounds and carbonation. These Lines are either smaller lines and or short lengths of larger lines that are not long enough for lining, but has the same solution.
Here’s how it works: We determine pipe sizing and what it is made of. We then prep line with several options depending on type. For instance, lets talk about cast iron. We use our high-speed prep-cleaning machine to strip off the scale and built up debris that has occurred over the years inside the pipe. Next we use high velocity water to remove that debris. This process obviously will thin out the thickness of the pipe. Once dry, we then mix the resin and use a spin brush to coat the piping inside diameter and length. Once complete, we use heat to cure the 1st coat. This process will have to be repeated two more times, and possibly more for a larger line. This is still usually a one-day process. Once complete, this provides a smooth surface rehabilitated pipe that will last for many years to come.
This product, like the CIPP mentioned above is usually a no dig installation. This means no jack hammering up concrete floors, or may be tiled bathrooms. Perfect for commercial applications.
Business relationships: We do not want to disturb your business during the day if closing is a problem for you. We can work nights if necessary. We have even worked overnights on occasion. We understand the importance of doing business.
There are going to be times when the sewer has to be excavated.
Some common situations:
Once we repair the sewer, we could install a liner to eliminate future infiltration issues. We have provided these types of services for years and have all the necessary equipment to handle any sewer job. We recommend highly to anyone purchasing a house to have sewer lateral inspection done prior to signing off due to conditions we see everyday with problems in these lines. This can save you thousands and give you peace of mind if nothing else. For a small fee we will come out to the house you want to buy and complete and inspection and give you a written and or video report of our findings. The idea behind Progressive Sewer Solutions is to correct your sewer and drain piping needs. Not simply prolong another visit of cleaning the drain again, but fix it.
